In a few words: A rich, lively, and well-balanced wine.

Site: Loamy clay, farmed using “agricultura integrata” – as naturally as possible. East and west exposure – midday sun.

Grapes: 100% Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, estate vineyard, 1 hectare, very high density (about 5,200 plants per hectare), about 200m in altitude, vine age 20 years, trained using “Cordone Speronato” (Cordon trained and Spur pruned), extremely low yields, and harvested late in order to pick fully ripened grapes.

Fermentation and Aging: Soft pressing, long (30 days) maceration, temperature controlled fermentation. Colline Teramane “Castellum Vetus” spends 15 months aging in 225L French oak barriques, medium toast.

Notes: Characterized by a ruby red color with deep violet reflections, this wine has an invigorating aroma of blackberry and blueberry, with hints of vanilla and cocoa. The palate is rich and fruity with well-integrated tannins and a lively acidity. Perfect with grilled meat, or try it with lasagna, porchetta, or meatballs.

“Castellum Vetus” refers back to the ancient castle of the Duke of Acquaviva who lived in Casoli in the 14th Century. Production is about 7,000 bottles.
