In a few words: This is a really special bottle of wine. Somehow it manages to have unexpected flavors and yet is a real crowd pleaser. Joe says ... "Even the most jaded taster will be blown away by this wine. I LOVE introducing people to it."
Site: A hamlet just north of Bolzano, Sanct Magdalena, is home to the vineyard for this wine and gives it its name. It's a sub-appellation of Alto Adige DOC which includes only 600 hectares.
Grapes: 90% Schiava and 10% Lagrein
Fermentation and Aging: Classic process in temperature-controlled stainless steel without the use of oak in this winery's sparkling clean facility.
Notes: Put a little bit of a chill on this wine before serving, maybe 60° F. Pair it the same way you might a Cru Beaujolais.
