Anomalía

anomalia.jpgWinery: Wildmakers
Region: Guarilihue Alto, El Huaro sector
Appellation: San Javier (Maule)
Designation: DO

Site: With more than 50 thousand hectares planted, the Maule is the largest wine region in Chile and within the valley, the dry land of the Maule is one of the sectors that most characterize this area. It has a perfect water balance due to winter rains, so the vine generally grows without irrigation. This characteristic made it the place chosen by the first winegrowers more than 400 years ago. Today these vineyards, with their centuries-old roots, are a living heritage.

The Comavida Vineyard lies at the foot of a southern slope facing slightly to the east, providing a cooler climate which leads to accelerated decomposition of the mother rock, creating excellent drainage and permeable soil. The soil is silty clay, dark brown and reddish in color.

Grapes: 75% Blauer Portugieser, 25% Garnacha Tinta

Fermentation and Aging: Made from a co-fermentation of Blauer Portugieser and Garnacha Tinta with natural yeasts. 21 days of maceration/fermenation - some in tinajas, some in stainless steel - then aged in French oak for 10 months.

Notes: Enticing and unusual aromas of herbaceous spice. The palate is lively and raspy with crunchy red fruits, like cranberry and raspberry. At first the mouthfeel is restrained, dialed back; but with time opens up to show good breath and character. Let this wine breathe for at least one hour; watch it change its character and improve with air. Stands up nicely to strong flavors such as game meats or hard cheese.
