Appellation: Chianti
Designation: DOCG
In a few words: A perfect expression of the Chianti Classico hills, this wine beautifully captures the quintessence of varietal and terroirs: smooth and elegant, with an irreproducible texture when grown in other areas. This wine has a story to tell!
Site: Pliocenic hills rich with ancient river deposits and gravel, with a presence of fine lake and alluvial deposits. At an altitude of 270-350 meters above sea level, the vineyards are mainly exposed to the south. Low spurred cordon and Guyot training. 5800 plants per ha. Despite its northern location, the microclimate provides milder temperatures compared to much of the surrounding area, and thus a marginally earlier harvest in September.
Grapes: Sangiovese 95% and Colorino 5%
Fermentation and Aging: Fermentation takes place in open conical steel tanks, with a semi-automatic fulling system, at a controlled temperature of 28° C for a period of 14 days; the grapes are inoculated with selected indigenous yeasts. Aged for 16-20 months in oak casks, followed by a 6-month aging period in the bottle.
Notes: This wine benefits beautifully from a prolonged aging in wood, where the Sangiovese grape is given time to develop the depth and texture authentic to its character. The fragrances are given time to expand, enrich and grow into a warm radiance of scents typical of this Riserva: mirabelle and blood orange, hints of rosehip and bramble berries, sage and thyme and delicate white pepper. The palate presents an elegance and clarity of approach, with a precise balance between softness, freshness, and tannic perception, finishing with a long, saline and slightly spiced persistence that leaves a sense of joyful vitality.
