Region:
Toscana
Locale:
San Casciano Val di Pesa, Florence
Appellation: Chianti
Designation: DOCG

In a few words: This Chianti Classico is generous and open, featuring vibrant, almost crunchy red berry fruit.

Site: Pliocenic hills rich with ancient river deposits and gravel, with a presence of fine lake and alluvial deposits. At an altitude of 270-350 meters above sea level, the vineyards are mainly exposed to the south. Vine training in the form of low spurred cordon, so as to derive maximum benefit from the heat of the earth. 5800 plants per ha. Despite its northern location, the microclimate provides milder temperatures compared to much of the surrounding area, and thus a marginally earlier harvest in September.

Grapes: Sangiovese 95% and Colorino 5%

Fermentation and Aging: The fermentation process lasts 15 days, with a maximum temperature of 26° C in open air tanks with temperature control. The grapes are inoculated with selected indigenous yeasts. Aging in cement vats for 12 months.

Notes: Brilliant ruby red in the glass, with a refined aromatic phrasing of violets and iris, shades of red berries, currants, and freshly picked cherries, with hints of orange and pepper adding a sense of vitality. The mouth is juicy, with notes of pomegranate and red plums framed by a beautifully textured tannic sensation. Balanced, satisfying and focused, with a remarkable length ending in a refreshing peppery finish. Ages gracefully, but can be enjoyed in its youth with style, as it comes across as very deep and complex, yet accessible. Try pairing with baked lamb ribs and rosemary potatoes.
