The 18 hectare family run winery and vineyards are situated on the south-eastern edge of the Montalcino DOC in the tiny village of Castelnuovo dell’ Abate.
Flavio Fanti is a traditionalist – utilizing large Slovenian and French oak for his Brunello. However, he strongly believes that wine is a product of fruit and anytime fruit is consumed it must be ripe and mature.
Flavio's Brunello are a testament to the amazing zone of Castelnuovo dell’Abate. Flavio cultivates these vineyards organically with severe respect for the land and his beloved appellation. His Brunello are massive wines with structure, power and purity, without doubt, built for the long haul.
A true country gentleman, time seems to nearly stand still as you listen to Flavio speak about his vines, as if they were his children. There is no foreign investment here, no group of Swiss doctors or Pinot Grigio magnates from the north. No Syrah, Merlot or Cabernet planted anywhere near his land! And adamantly: “No barrique”.
Flavio fashions his wines himself, a grower, and a cellar-master. In addition, his daughter Tea has earned her Doctorate in Oenology and is of great assistance in the cellar. Flavio is Tuscan through and through, a true Brunellista.
In the vineyards, grapes are grown with attentive care and organic farming methods. In 2016 La Palazzetta was awarded with the “Ecofriendly Cellar Diploma” for the production of healthy wines for consumers, the commitment to ecologically sustainable values, the realization of projects aiming to protect land and vineyards, and the actuation of energy saving plans. La Palazzetta wines will receive organic certification starting with the 2018 harvest.
