Lagrein "Taber"

Taber.jpgWinery: Cantina Bolzano / St. Magdalena
Region:
Alto Adige
Locale:
Bolzano, Italy
Appellation: Alto Adige
Designation: DOC

In a few words: Dark garnet red, robust, harmonious wine with body and velvety fullness, pleasant and markedly typical of the variety.

Site: From a single vineyard site almost within Bolzano town; alluvial soils washed with gravel and clay, this 100+ year old, Pergola-trained vineyard is truly the “Grand Cru” of Lagrein.

Lagrein is a typical South Tyrolean variety, which thrives on the plains of the Bolzano valley, and its surroundings, benefitting from the strong temperature differences between day and night.

Grape: 100% Lagrein

Fermentation and Aging: Open-toped Stainless Steel and 50 Hectoliter wooden fermentation vessels, with regular punch-downs. Formerly 50% New French barriques, since the 1997 vintage the new oak has been cut back to 33%.

Notes: A modern classic and a historical wine from Italy. The first vintage of Taber Lagrein came in 1988. Since 1995, when the wine earned its first Tre Bicchieri, Taber Lagrein has earned Tre Bicchieri in almost every vintage. Profound notes of savory, dark fruits and berries, with fantastic structure and limitless finish. No hint of heat and no wonder – just 13.5% alcohol. Drinks best 6-7 years from the vintage. Beautiful with dark meat and wild game dishes, such as venison and beef.

About 1000 cases produced.
