Site: Gentle hills near the town of Jesi and more specifically the hamlet of San Paolo. Grown on 6.5 hectares of estate vineyards. Soils are clay and calcarious with some incidence of sand. Generally about 250 meters above sea level. Farmed without the use of systemic chemicals.
Grapes: 100% Verdicchio
Fermentation and Aging: Vinified in stainless steel fermentors. Racked to cement deposits and fined with clay; bottled the spring following the vintage.
Notes: Verdicchio is one of Italy’s truly noble white grapes, and in the hands of Brunori it achieves remarkable success. Driven flavors and complex, intense aromatics with persistent notes of fennel, and a gorgeous, persistent finish. The Adriatic coastline provides some of the best seafood in all of Italy, and Brunori’s Verdicchio will not disappoint. “Le Gemme” means “the gems” in Italian but also in the context of wine, refers to the first buds of springtime when the vine begins to flower.
