Piemonte (Piedmont)
Locale:
La Morra (Barolo) Italy
Appellation: Barolo
Designation: DOCG

In a few words: Graceful Nebbiolo nose, with forward, full throttle blackberry and cherry flavors that are well-structured yet incredibly accessible. Complex yet perfectly balanced.

Site: Four vineyards in the villages of La Morra and Barolo. 2.4 hectares in all, 9000 vines. Southeast exposure, 350 meters above sea level, with sandy soils. Vines are 55-60 years old, trained in the guyot method. Mid-October harvest.

Grapes: 100% Nebbiolo

Fermentation and Aging: After lengthy maceration on the skins (300 hours on average), the new wine is transferred into wood, where the spontaneous malolactic fermentation takes place. Beginning with the 2004 Barolo normale, 50% of the wine ages 26 months in new barriques, and 50% ages for 26 months in 2nd passage French barriques, followed by 6 months in the bottle.

Notes: Producing about 8000 bottles, this is undoubtedly one of the great values still available in Barolo. Intense and bright garnet-red in color. Fruity aroma enhanced by a lively acidity with notes of goudron, leather, graphite evolving with the passing of time. Complex in mouth, with polished tannins, evident fruity flavors of blackberry and cherry, and firm structure in perfect balance. Long-lasting finish.
