Region: Piemonte (Piedmont)
Locale: La Morra (Barolo) Italy
Appellation: Barbera d'Alba
Designation: DOC
In a few words: Full-bodied, structured and layered with beautiful balance of fruit, natural acidity and oak influence.
Site: Three small vineyards, all located in the village of La Morra – a total of 2.6 hectares. Soils: calcareous marl. Southeast exposure, 280 meters above sea level. Cold winters, hot summers. Vines are 15-25 years old, guyot trained. Late September harvest.
Grapes: 100% Barbera
Fermentation and Aging: After harvesting, which takes place around the end of September exclusively by hand, the grapes are softly pressed, the must is left in contact with the skins for a few hours, then fermented in temperature-controlled steel vats, then aged for a period in steel and a period in barriques.
Notes: One of the best values available in Barbera - intensely clean, great balance, fine structure and bright fruit. About 11,000 bottles produced. Intense ruby-red turning to light purple hue, due to the aging in barriques. The nose shows oaky notes well-integrated with hints of plum and cherry in alcohol. Warm sensations in mouth thanks to its high alcohol content, with rich toasty notes of ripe fruit and jam. Sour and long finish due to its typical varietal acidity. Delicious now, but this is a barbera that you can cellar for a while with confidence.
