Site: Clos de la Houssaie is a 70 ares (0.7 hectare) vineyard plot in the commune of La Haye Fouassière, The grapes grow peacefully in their own micro-climate, protected by an old stone wall. The soil is made up of metamorphic rock - amphibolites and serpentinites - of the Ramée fault.
This Clos was used as a reference in 1926 for the appellation Grand Cru de Sevre & Maine. Since the 2009 vintage, it has been in recognition of “Cru Communal La Haye Fouassière."
Grapes: 100% Melon de Bourgogne (Muscadet). The vines are trained in "guyot Nantais", a local style of vine training, and yield just 45 hectolitres per hectare.
Fermentation and Aging: Pneumatic pressing, with vinification in temperature controlled underground tanks. 24 months on the original fine lees; 3 years of bottle age before release to the market.
Notes: Yellow-golden color with compelling aromas of ripe fruit. Good minerality, conveying finesse and elegance on the palate. Perfect as an aperitif and as an accompaniment to scallops or fish in sauce; delightful with cheese!
