Winery: Alain Voge
Region: Rhône - Nord (Northern Rhône)
Locale: Cornas, France
Appellation: Cornas Controlée
Designation: AOC
In a few words: A stunning wine with a story to tell.
Site: Alain Voge was one of the first wine producers to plant vines atop the Cornas appellation, around the chapel “Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens”. On granitic slopes at elevations of 400m, the vines are trained and pruned in Cordon de Royat style. Organic and biodynamic methods are used for the entire domain.
Grapes: 100% Syrah, harvested by hand
Fermentation and Aging: Total destemming. Fermentation with natural yeasts and maceration for several weeks in stainless steel vats, with cap-punching and pumping-over done twice a day. Maturation in 228-litre barrels for 20 months, without new oak.
Notes: Elegant on the nose, revealing notes of raspberry and blackberry. The palate begins with an aromatic, floral note which then deepens into dense, powerfully ripe black cherry and plum, and finally an intensity of small red fruit towards the finish. Lively and textured, yet elegant and clean, with an aging potential of 15 years.
