Perez Basoco is a family winery with over 100 years of winemaking tradition. Located in the town of Villabuena de Álava, in the subregion of Rioja Alavesa, the family farms 25 hectares of vineyards adjacent to the winery. Unusually for Rioja, all the wines are produced from the estate's vineyards. Vine age is from 30-70yrs, and vineyards are planted in terraces at 450 meters in soils of clay and marl with underlying striated limestone. Grapes are handpicked and elaborated completely by gravity in a winery built in 1983 using vertical construction, with no pumps to bruise and damage the fruit or must. The family recognizes that great wines are grown in the vineyard from the healthiest possible fruit.
